Robert Green1

Immigrant or End of Line Ancestor

Robert Green was born about 1770 in Maryland. He married Barbara Spiker on 26 Aug 1791 in Allegany County, Maryland. He settled in the area around Georges Creek, near what is now the line between Allegany County and Garrett County. He had 7 sons and 1 daughter.

Any suggestions as to Robert's parentage would be most welcome.

Some have suggested that Robert is a son of Nicholas Green who is of the Robert Duff Green line of Virginia. Nicholas did have a son Robert, but it appears that he was born about 1760 and would be about 10 years older than our Robert. It also appears that descendants of the Robert Duff Green line did not enter western Maryland until the 1830's when coal production became a major operation. Our Robert was in Allegany/Garrett County at least as early as 1791 when his marriage was recorded there. Consequently, I have rejected this unless additional documentation can be found that would prove otherwise.

I have also wondered if he belonged to the Benjamin Green-Catherine Beem and Michael Beem-Elizabeth Green clan. Benjamin and Elizabeth Green were siblings as well as their spouses Michael and Catherine Beem. They resided near Robert as can be seen by a land analysis, but both families moved to Licking County, Ohio right around 1800. Both our Robert and Benjamin seem to use similar names for their children, but I have not been able to form a conclusive link. Robert would have to be a younger sibling to Benjamin and Elizabeth, if there is a link at all. Benjamin was born between 1755 and 1757 in either New Jersey or Maryland.
