Discussion

On 25 Aug 1731 John Tanner [place illegible] in Kings Co. and his wife Susanna, daughter of Francis West of North Kingstown, deceased, sold to her brother Peter West of North Kingstown, yeoman, their share in the estate of Francis West.

One John Tanner is listed in Newport RI for the 1747 census. On 1 Dec 1747, John Tanner recorded his earmark in Richmond RI and on 10 March 1747/8 [son] George Tanner recorded an almost identical earmark in Richmond RI. A Joseph Phillips recorded his earmark there 5 Oct 1748, which earmark was a simple variation on [father-in-law] John Tanner's.

On 21 March 1770 John Tanner of Richmond, yeoman, sold to William Tanner of Hopkinton, yeoman, 75 acres in Richmond; no wife mentioned.

In a Hopkinton, RI town meeting on 9 Sep 1777, John Tanner was exempted from town and state poll taxes. He is listed in Hopkinton, RI for the 1777 military census (age 60+)
